Two members of the Pates’ Alumni (1959-1966), Professor Lynne Hunt (née Hardy) and Mrs Jacky Gleed (née Hack), recently visited the school to donate Lynne’s most recent storytelling book to the library.

‘Hummable Stories’ is a work of creative non-fiction in which real stories offer a kernel of truth that has been creatively embellished to explore life’s course. It’s all about storytelling, stories of friendship and communication, travel, living and dying, stories about gossip, identity, absconding, and abandonment, and more.

Songs and stories are intertwined as a particular piece of music transports readers to significant times and places in their own lives. Each short chapter examines everyday issues that affect us all. These are stories of the ordinary and the extraordinary, borrowed from family and friends.

The illustrative pages of chapters feature song lyrics, poems, photography, sculpture, letters, limericks, quilting, and sketches that illuminate the key point of each chapter, making the point that storytelling lies at the heart of all forms of art.

The book is available as paperback or eBook and may be purchased from online booksellers. Just tap in the name of the book and author. Alternatively, order through your local bookshop.

Lynne’s first storytelling book, ‘Making Meaning: Making Sense’ is also available as paper back or eBook from the same online booksellers. Lynne has donated both books as part of the Pates’ Library project to shine a light on those amongst our alumni who are published authors.
