Thank you to all who took part in this event, especially to the parents/carers for their wonderful stalls and dancing. Also to the students who performed, ran stalls and helped set up and tidy up. Raising more than £1,000 for Pate’s Giving, this was a spectacular start to the Year of the Snake!

Year 7 student Romany says,
“Lunar New Year is important to me because my family is Chinese and we celebrate it every year. I helped by setting up (lanterns, banners etc) and cleared away at the end. I enjoyed this Lunar New Year, the lion dance was the highlight of the day. I will remember this Lunar New Year as my first one spent in the UK as last year, we went back to visit my family.”

Olivia (Yr 10) said,
“Lunar New Year is a time where I can come together with my family and celebrate the new year and new opportunities!  I was a compère introducing the performances in the First Half of the Lunar New Year performance, as well as being part of my year group’s performance on our Trip to China.

On the day, it went really well, and the audience were really encouraging. The performances were wonderful!  The highlight of the day for me was trying the tanghulu (a traditional Chinese snack  of fruit on bamboo sticks, coated in a hard, glossy sugar syrup)… It tasted amazing!

I learnt that confidence makes a difference when speaking on stage and I will remember this Lunar New Year performance for its vibrant dances and the amazing atmosphere and attitude of everyone attending and performing!”

Our thanks also to 288 Bar & Wok, Cheltenham, who supplied the pre-ordered food - it was wonderful!
