We are saddened to hear of the passing of Alex Staines (Pate’s Grammar School 2005-2007) in August.
Alex will be remembered for his love of travel and languages, as well as his razor-sharp wit and endlessly engaging insights into the political world. During his time at Pate’s, Alex was well known for combining outstanding academic results with an enviably relaxed approach to study. After leaving school, he followed his passion for languages and exploration, travelling widely and undertaking several transcontinental journeys by bicycle.
Those who knew Alex remember him not only for his intelligence and curiosity, but also for his humour, kindness, and the genuine interest he took in the world and people around him. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, former teachers, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
