In Memoriam |
We were informed of the passing of Allan Townsend by his son Gavin. Allan was born in Cheltenham in 1933 and attended Cheltenham Grammar School from 1944 - 1949. He played for the school's 1st XV and for Gloucestershire Schoolboys. He told Gavin on numerous occasions that the Grammar School was 'the making of him'.
On leaving school he became an employee of Martins' Bank in Cheltenham. On call up for National Service (1951-1953), he joined the RASC and was stationed at Aldershot and travelled to Berlin. Returning to Cheltenham, he continued with his banking and subsequently joined Barclays Bank PLC when they took over Martins' Bank. Career moves took Allan to Bournemouth, Bath and Froom, finally returning to Cheltenham where he retired as a Bank Official in April 1988.
The family would like to share the following arrangments for the funeral and welcome anyone who knew Allan to attend:
The funeral service will be held at St.Mary's Church, Witcombe, on Wednesday 23rd November at 1pm. It will be followed by a private Internment.
Mourners are invited back to Gloucester Rugby Club, Kingsholm, to celebrate Allan's life and for refreshments from 3pm.
Where possible, if you plan to attend, the family ask you to car share.
